According to wikipedia Easter eggs, also called Paschal eggs, are eggs that are sometimes decorated. They are usually used as gifts on the occasion of Easter. As such, Easter eggs are common during the season of Eastertide (Easter season).

Easter egg is an old tradition that have been in existence for a while now. 

The egg which is an ancient symbol of new life, has been associated with pagan festivals celebrating spring. Easter eggs are said to signify the emergence of Jesus from the tomb and resurrection. This date back to at least the 13th century according to sources claim. The claim explains that the eggs were formerly forbidden food during the lenten season, people paint and decorate the eggs to mark the end of the period of fasting. They proceed to eat the eggs on Easter a s celebration.

Just as Jesus raised on the third day from the tomb, the egg stands as a symbol of new life coming forth from an eggshell.
