Tigernut is a crop in the sedge family. Botanically called Cyperus esculentus. It earned it's name from a tiger stripped exterior. They can be eaten freshly dug out of the ground, or roasted, boiled or juiced. In Nigeria, it's mostly grown in the north.
Importance of tigernut
1. Rich source of vitamin Eand C: Vitamin E is a good antioxidant which helps to protect against damages caused by free radicals in the body. It also help prevent both cancer, appearance of wrinkle, acne and aging.
2. Helps in controlling diabetes: Tigernut is a recommended food for people suffering from high blood sugar level because they contain vast amount of insoluble fiber which help reduce the intake of starchy foods.
3. Boost fertility: Because of the high vitamin E content in tigernut, it has been proven to help boost both Male and female fertility.
4. Aid digestion and gut health: Tigernuts have been used to treat ailments for the stomach, irritable bowel syndrome. During pregnancy, digestive problems can occur. A regular intake of tigernut reduces it.
Tigernuts also aid weight loss. It has proven to be very important in our lives. And as such advice that we take them regularly.
